As part of Black History Month, the North Kent Caribbean Network, supported by Cohesion Plus, designed and curated ‘The Windrush Front Room’ exhibition which was launched at the Saint George’s Arts Centre in Gravesham at the beginning of October.
The exhibition serves as an immersive experience and 1940’s time capsule of a typical front room and familial space of the average family who would have arrived on the SS Empire Windrush and made a life for themselves in the UK. The exhibition explores themes of transition, cross culture aesthetics and ultimately, the cherishing of ‘home’ and whatever that means to you.
The exhibition will run until the October 28th
